Jon Ruben admitted 17 criminal counts at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

An individual who laced sweets with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two children aged nine and ten years old.

The defendant was detained after eight minors and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from that region, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

The defendant was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, described the criminal behavior to the court.

She explained his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he managed.

Ruben played a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in recently.

The legal representative added: "Recently" his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.

"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."

The prosecutor explained materials including lubricant, petroleum jelly and syringes were located, and his stepson notified the authorities about his suspicions.

She stated the man continued to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.

"The police had not arrived by that point," she added.

The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the events.

The prosecutor stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the authorities a second time.

She said Ruben then engaged in the "candy game" in a area of five youngsters.
